Richard Bruce Cheney is the son of Richard Herbert Cheney of the late Marjorie Lauraine Dickey. He was born on January 30, 1941 within Lincoln Nebraska. In 1941, when Richard Bruce Cheney was 13, he and his family left Lincoln Nebraska and moved to Casper Wyoming in the state where his father worked for his position as the head of U.S. Department of Agriculture's local conservation districts.
