Richard B. Cheney, prominent public servant and businessman, is the vice-president. Cheney known as a popular figure in Washington politics, has served under four presidents from the United States. George W. Bush is the fourth. Bush chose Cheney to be his vice-presidential candidate in July 2000, citing Cheney's knowledge and expertise. Dick Cheney served as the chief of staff for the president. He also served as a Member of Congress and served as secretary of defence. Republicans and Democrats all respect his honesty. Cheney stated that he sees the role of an honest and discreet adviser to Bush's administration. Cheney accepted his role as Republican vice president that he would like to be a president candidate who will be a cross-partisan collaborator and work with political rivals with kindness and with a common goal. Richard Bruce Cheney is the son of Richard Herbert Cheney of the late Marjorie Lauraine Dickey. He was born on January 30, 1941 within Lincoln Nebraska. In 1941, when Richard Bruce Cheney was 13, he and his family left Lincoln Nebraska and moved to Casper Wyoming in the state where his father worked for his position as the head of U.S. Department of Agriculture's local conservation districts.
