April Lockhart

April Lockhart was born on July 4th, 1995. in seventh grade. She began playing the guitar as well as taking piano lessons which ignited her passion for writing songs. April Lockhart composed her first single, Different at the age twelve years old. When she was 14 years old, April was spending a lot of time writing lyrics and perfecting her musicianship ability. After a while, she began traveling with her father and to write songs in NY and LA. April included other subjects in her song"Take my Hand. These topics were for friends that dealt with things like peer pressure and disabilities, or even teenage suicidal ideas. Lockhart has her own fan base and works as a lifestyle blogger at the renowned Ilia clean beauty brand. Her birth was without a left hand and that is an aspect of her identity, but it's hardly her whole story. As a result Lockhart's Instagram profile does not shy away from her disability, but it doesn't center around her disability neither. The point? The message? That we each contain multitudes, that our physical and identity selves are not all that they appear. Lockhart speaks via video in Nashville. "I don't intend to let it define my existence. I do not want to be only identified as a specialist in disability. This doesn't interfere with my everyday life. All is well and I've learned to make adjustments. Since it's a my identity and something worthy of talking about. Lockhart who is an source of inspiration for anyone who wants to be self-accepting, is on a long journey to achieve this. Yet, she confesses to going through periods when she felt uncomfortable with her appearance and wearing clothing which displayed her arms. She can wear whatever she wants, and she happily shares pictures of her wearing these clothes. The journey itself is what I'm not sure if will ever be the end of self-love. This is a process, and I'm not sure you'll ever get there. The people you surround yourself with, who know you and see into your heart are the best people to remind you of what you're concerned about.
